Prefer your own place? Airbnbs in Ipanema and Leblon are a great option too, and keep you close to the shuttle pick-ups.

Escadaria Selarón & Lapa
The city’s most colourful staircase, tiled step by step by Jorge Selarón. Pair it with the Lapa Arches and the bars around them.

Christ the Redeemer
The obvious first stop. Cristo Redentor watches the whole city from the top of Corcovado, high in Tijuca National Park.

Sugarloaf Mountain
The Pão de Açúcar cable car climbs from Urca to a panorama of Christ, Copacabana and Guanabara Bay. Go for sunset.

Ipanema & Arpoador
If you only make one beach, make it this one: an afternoon on the sand, then sunset from the Arpoador rocks.

Santa Teresa
Rio’s hillside bohemian quarter: old mansions, winding streets and the famous yellow tram. A world away from the beachfront.

Jardim Botânico
Tropical gardens beneath the mountains, with an avenue of towering imperial palms. A gentler day out, close to Lagoa and Parque Lage.

Parque Lage & Lagoa
A palatial mansion and gardens directly beneath Christ, then a lap of the lagoon. City, mountains and jungle in one walk.

Museu do Amanhã
Calatrava’s science museum on the revitalised waterfront downtown, striking at any hour and best around sunset. Pair it with Praça Mauá and the AquaRio.

Barra da Tijuca
Eleven uninterrupted kilometres of Atlantic beach: wider, wilder and quieter than the Zona Sul. Worth the trip for a full day on the sand.

Maracanã
The temple of Brazilian football. If Flamengo or Fluminense are playing while you’re in town, go. There’s nothing like match day here.
Brazil eVisa
Travelling on a US, Canadian or Australian passport? You’ll need an eVisa to enter Brazil. UK and EU passports don’t. It’s a simple online application: your passport, a photo and about ten minutes.
Apply through the official VFS portal at least a few weeks before you fly.

Placeholder. Think dinner, late-night food and an open bar. Full details to come.
Rio is a beautiful city that welcomes millions of tourists each year. That said, you should stay aware of your surroundings and belongings, and we don’t recommend walking around the streets at night.
We also encourage you to use Uber Black to and from your locations.
Placeholder. Later nights, lots of dancing, and a more relaxed timeline than you might be used to. We’ll share the fun details here.
Placeholder. We’ll share our planner’s contact details here before the big day.
We’d love you to be present rather than on your phone during the ceremony. We’ll have a photographer capturing it all on the day!
Of course! We encourage it.
